26 Momme Silk

What does Momme mean?

Derived from the Japanese word "Momme" [mom-ee], it is a unit of measurement of silk weight and represents the weight in pounds of a piece of cloth measuring 45 inches x 100 yards, equivalent to the length of a football field.

The momme value is important because the higher it is, the greater the weight and density of the silk fabric.

During the silk production process, the density and thread count of silk are adjusted to control the weight of the fabric, which is also known as "momi" in Italian.

As the momme count increases, the silk threads are woven more tightly, resulting in a tie that is more durable and luxurious to the touch. Additionally, this superior quality allows the tie to flow beautifully and maintain a solid, substantial knot throughout the day.
